How was your summer? Did you travel to any beautiful beaches?

I've had the pleasure of meeting several of you who have brought me your sea glass treasures to transform into one of a kind jewelry. Thank-you so much for sharing your memories with me and for allowing me to create a personal keepsake for you!

Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) seems to have been a popular destination this summer. For whatever reason, I've come across more aqua colored sea glass in P.E.I. than in Nova Scotia. Aqua is one of the most popular colors of sea glass, I've noticed, maybe because it is the color that we associate with ocean surf...

Now that the sugar maples are beginning to turn red at the tips of the crowns, it is time for me to turn my attentions to the Fall 2016 craft show season. This time round I am focusing on one or two events to allow more time for custom orders and the many family commitments that accompany the season.

You'll be able to find me at the Glebe Craft and Artisan Fair, November 18 - 20, 2016. This is held in a beautiful neo-classical building in a great community so this is wonderful chance to shop local handmade gifts. Free admission and street parking.

And I do plan on hosting an open house once I can confirm a suitable date, likely in late October or early November. Stay tuned for more details! Why not join the newsletter so you'll be sure to get an invitation? The form is on the right hand side menu.

If you are thinking about custom gifts for December, please do get in touch soon so I can be sure to have them ready in time.

You wouldn't know it here in Ottawa, but it is April and Spring is here. I swear I saw a purple crocus in the backyard last week although now it is under a foot of snow. Next week the temperature is forecast to rise to the high teens!

In years past, I have participated in several spring shows such as OVCC Vibrant, MAC Blooms, Love Handmade, Handmade Harvest and the Glebe Jewelry Show. It was fun, but chaotic as it coincides with many family events and birthdays which I couldn't not participate fully in. Part of the reason I wished to explore the lifestyle of an artist is to reclaim my schedule and family life.

That being the case, I have decided this spring to focus more on promoting my current work through social media, accepting custom work, and exploring new ways of showcasing sea glass artistically. I will still do a few shows in the Fall but much fewer than in previous years so that I can channel my energy as productively as possible.

As always, I enjoy your sea glass stories and always happy to discuss how to transform your sea glass treasures into wearable art or some other expression of your coastal memories.

Here we are with the holidays upon us. Can you believe it? As I type this I can smell something delicious in the oven which we will share with family over Thanksgiving dinner (US Edition) tonight. Hopefully you find yourself warm of body and heart. If you can manage, maybe find a way that is meaningful to you to extend your warmth to others in need.

One way of trying to bridge the marketplace and the desire to do right by our community is to seek out places where these values meet. That is one of the reasons I really enjoy participating in the Ottawa Valley Crafts & Collectibles Guild (OVCC) Joy! show. The organizers do their utmost to showcase the varied talents of Ottawa and Outaouais area artisans, to promote the local small businesses as well as to shine a light on a charity. This year, the OVCC Joy! show will donate the proceeds from the $2 admission to "Sit With Me" dog rescue and "Adopt Me" cat rescue.

The Joy! runs for two days but please note that I will be there on the Saturday Nov 28, 2015 only. This will be my last show of the season.

If you are not able to come by tomorrow but are interested in browsing my work, the National Gallery of Canada Bookstore carries a selection of SeaCycledGlass Jewelry. My Etsy store and Web store will be active throughout December and I will add new listings regularly. If you wish to send a gift from my store, I can ship directly to the recipient if you add their information in the shipping address form.

Here is some more information about OVCC's Joy!:
