Collection: Violet
Violet is the color of amethyst. Their are two types of violet:
- A true violet intended for tableware, or
- Originally clear colorless glass that turned violet after prolonged exposure to UV light from the sun.
The 2nd type is often found as ink bottles. The manufacturer would have added a decolorizer to the mix to produce a clear colorless container that allowed the consumer to see the true color of the ink. However, this additive reacted with sunlight to produce a violet colors following prolonged exposure to UV rays. Once manufacturers realized this was happening, they changed their formula to produce a stable clear colorless glass.
Pink is rare to very rare in Nova Scotia. I have sourced more pink from the Carribean. It would have been used for tableware.
